Solid wood beds, made for a lifetime of natural sleep

Dormiente bedframes in oak, walnut, cherry and untreated Swiss pine — joined without metal where possible, finished with natural oils, hand-built to your size in Germany and delivered across Ireland.

Why a solid wood bed is worth the difference

A bedframe is the single largest piece of furniture in the room you spend a third of your life in. Buy it once, properly, and you stop buying bedframes. Solid wood — not MDF, not chipboard, not particleboard with a wood-effect veneer — costs more upfront and saves money, landfill and disturbed sleep over the next twenty years.

🌳 Solid wood, not "wood effect

Most cheap bedframes are MDF or chipboard with a printed veneer that chips, swells when damp and de-laminates within a few years. Every Dormiente frame is solid timber from the side rails to the slats — heavy, dense and built to be repaired, never landfilled.

🪵 Metal-free joinery where it matters

Frames are joined using traditional wedge-and-dowel construction — pegs into mortises, no power tools required, no screws to strip. Your sleeping surface stays free of metal, and the bed can be disassembled and re-assembled without losing any of its strength.

🏠 Crafted to last, not disposable

Made to order in Dormiente's Hessen workshop with a 6–8 week lead time. Every joint is fitted by hand, every surface oiled (or left untreated, in the case of Swiss stone pine). The same bed, ten years from now, will still tighten up the way it did the day you got it.

The collection — four styles, fifteen designs

Every Dormiente solid wood bed falls into one of four families. Pick the silhouette you want, then we'll help you choose the wood, size, headboard option and slatted base when you enquire.

Modular & storage systems

ARIVE, MIRA and SOREO are clean, low-profile platforms designed to grow around your bedroom — add storage drawers, hanging consoles and side tables as you go. The bed and the storage are one connected, made-to-measure system.

From €1,495 — MIRA, steamed beech, 90 × 200 cm. VAT and delivery included.

Contemporary & minimal

LARIA, LARIA MAXI, MOLA, MOLA MAXI, NUVEO, NUVEO MAXI and PINAR sit closer to the floor — Scandinavian feel, mattress-forward proportions. MOLA can also be specified with an optional under-bed storage box.

From €1,010 — NUVEO without backrest, steamed beech, 90 × 200 cm. VAT and delivery included.`

Classic frames

BELUGA, GONDA, GONDA MAXI, KALMERA, KALMERA MAXI, KANDA, UDANA and VIVA are the everyday solid wood beds — the most-asked-for designs for main bedrooms. Full wood palette, headboard optional on most models, comfort-height upgrades available.

From €2,300 — KALMERA without backrest, steamed beech, 90 × 200 cm. VAT and delivery included.

Special & value

Two outliers. KB_23 is the value entry point — single firmness, faster delivery, three popular widths only. VETERIS_1 is the opposite end: reclaimed historic timber from German and Austrian buildings, hand-brushed, every piece unique.

From €1,990 — KB_23 base, steamed beech, 140 × 200 cm. VAT and delivery included

Choose your wood

Most Dormiente designs are offered in up to six woods. The choice changes the price, the colour, the way the bed catches light — and almost nothing else. Here’s the shortlist.

Steamed beech — our most-asked-for wood and the entry point in every range. Pale honey colour, fine even grain, oiled finish that warms over time. Available in every model; range entry from €1,010 (NUVEO).

Oak & wild oak — the bedroom classic. Distinctive grain, durable enough to last generations, available oiled, brushed, white-bianco or white-pigmented. Available in every model except the KB_23 base; from €2,975 (KALMERA without backrest).

Cherry & walnut — the premium tier. Cherry deepens to a rich red-brown over time; walnut sits a step further: dark, even, contemplative. Cherry from €3,290; walnut from €4,025 (KALMERA without backrest).

Swiss stone pine (Zirbe) — untreated and naturally aromatic, the wood used in Alpine bedrooms for centuries because it is said to calm the heart and help sleep. Available in BELUGA, GONDA, GONDA MAXI, KALMERA, KALMERA MAXI, MOLA, MOLA MAXI, NUVEO MAXI and PINAR; from €2,840 (KALMERA without backrest).

Other woods on request: Designbuche (LARIA, UDANA, VIVA), sweet chestnut and taupe (ARIVE, MIRA, SOREO modular ranges) and reclaimed historic timber (VETERIS_1 only). We’ll confirm what’s offered for your chosen design when you enquire.

See them in person — Clontarf, Dublin

Solid wood is one of those things photographs can’t quite capture — the grain, the way the oil catches the light, the heft of a 200 cm side rail in your hands. Half an hour in our Clontarf showroom usually settles questions you didn’t realise you had.

Frequently asked

How long does delivery to Ireland take?

Every Dormiente solid wood bed is hand-built to order in Germany. Manufacturing typically takes six to eight weeks from the day your order is confirmed. Delivery anywhere in the Republic of Ireland is included in the price, and on-site assembly is included as standard — your frame arrives, is built in the bedroom you’ll use it in, and the packaging is taken away.

What wood should I choose?

Most customers start with steamed beech (warm, light, the most accessible price point) or oak (durable, classic). Cherry and walnut are the premium tier, with deeper colour and a longer wait. Swiss stone pine is left untreated and is naturally aromatic — popular with people who notice scent. The honest answer is to come in and see the swatches in person.

Can I get a custom size?

Yes. Every model except KB_23 supports special lengths — 190, 210 and 220 cm — at a small surcharge. Bespoke widths and one-off shapes (sweetheart sizes, corner-cut beds, beds for boats and campervans) are quoted on request.

Do the beds come with a slatted base?

The slatted base is specified separately. Each frame has a recess depth designed for a specific kind of slatted base — roller-slat (Rollrost) for low-profile frames like LARIA, standard sprung-slat for everything else. We pair the right base with the right frame as part of the enquiry, and we can quote a Dormiente Naturrost or Rollrost Massiv at the same time.

What’s the warranty?

Each frame carries Dormiente’s manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. With normal use the structural lifespan of a solid wood frame is measured in decades — joints can be re-tightened, surfaces can be re-oiled, and individual components can be replaced. Many of our customers tell us their goal is to never buy another bed.

How do I look after solid wood furniture?

Dust regularly with a soft cloth. Wipe spills with a barely-damp cloth, never a soaking-wet one. Once a year (or whenever the wood looks thirsty) apply a light coat of natural oil — we can supply matching maintenance oil for any wood and finish. Untreated Swiss stone pine needs nothing at all and will silver gracefully over the years.
