Earthen Floor Workshop

  • Kilmore Quay, County Wexford Ireland (map)

Beautiful, sustainable, personal and comfortable — with earthen floors, being green has never felt so good. Over three hands-on days you will pour, burnish and finish a real earthen floor from start to finish, guided every step of the way.

Led by Sukita Reay Crimmel — author of Earthen Floors, Second Edition: A Modern Approach to an Ancient Practice.

What you’ll learn

Preparing the space — assessing and readying the sub-floor

Tools & mixing — the kit, and how to mix base and finish

Application — laying both the base floor and the finish floor

Burnishing & finishing — compacting to a smooth, durable surface

Oiling, waxing & repairs — sealing, buffing and maintaining the floor

The three days

Day 1 (9am–5pm): Preparing the space and pouring a finish earthen floor.

Day 2 (9am–5pm): Burnishing the finish floor, plus an illustrated talk on other types of installation.

Day 3 (9am–2pm): Demonstrations of oiling, waxing and buffing earthen floors.
